Well, I just tried that very recently, when I discovered, that the Developer-Update destroys the ability to use GDB in ProjectBuilderWO. I tried and read during 3-4 hours to replace just that feature by using Emacs. Finally I ended up, installing DDD with Fink and using that.

But perhaps I'm just too stupid. Sorry.
