how do I set a panel's title?

Hello all,
I have a panel without an associated document, and I want to set its
title before displaying it.
In the docs, it looks like I am supposed to override my controller's
windowTitleForDocumentDisplayName: method to return the title I want to
show. I have done this; however this method is never called and the
title shown is the default one I gave it in IB.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
