question on disclosure triangle

Dear Sir,
In MAC OS 9, there is a disclosure triangle. However in MAC OS X,
disclosure triangle only exist within the outlinetable view. If I want to
display my application window in compact or expand mode:

| | ------> | |
| | -----------------
----------------
(expand mode) (compact mode)
, without disclousre triangle, How can I achieve it using cocoa programming?
