Well, since we are all in disagreement here, I am going to respectfully
resign my original statement for the record, although, until I have
time
to sit down and try these other tests, I obviously can't accept that
that red is blue, if in my eyes it indeed looks like red.
Actually, my deep, dark suspicion is that you're extending the distinct
cases of static and virtual methods in C++ into Objective C. But as
Matthew Formica of Apple said at WWDC (Session 100, Introduction to
Cocoa), "It's as if all methods are virtual [ in Objective C ]."
Sorry to have caused such a fuss.
One of the things I am genuinely hoping is that this discussion --
newbies trying to master, and instinctively understand, the basics --
isn't too taxing on old Cocoa/NeXTSTEP hands. My feeling is that the
more good Cocoa programmers there are out there, the better it is for
all of us. While I think you're wrong, I also think it's a good,
intellectual exercise to work out what's wrong in each of your attempts
to prove yourself right. :-) :-) I do not find any of your attempts
annoying in the least bit ... and I hope others do not as well.
Obviously, you were drawn to your conclusions because of some
performance issue in your code. If this list can help you resolve your
performance issues, then we'll have yet another cool app available for
Mac users and one less reason for them to switch to another OS.
I try to approach this list the way Apple's Chuq von Rosotch (sp?)
asked us to do not so long ago. I digest and tune out the stuff that
doesn't interest me. No muss, no fuss. :-)
