I fully agree that the Finder royal pain. But this functionality is implementable anyway. A combination of a embedded database (where the files are probably stored as BLOBS), an application that knows how to create files encapsulating database queries (and asks for password protection) and a filter application that displays these files in a nice way in the Finder is something doable ...

It should look just like a normal folder that when clicked asks for password. I have many of my secret files in the Favorite folder so they would have to be alias-able. I want to be able to turn on/off the passwords by a Finder service and Cmd+P.
