I fully agree that the Finder royal pain. But this functionality is
implementable anyway. A combination of a embedded database (where the
files are probably stored as BLOBS), an application that knows how to
create files encapsulating database queries (and asks for password
protection) and a filter application that displays these files in a nice
way in the Finder is something doable ...
