Can't figure out how to get HD name!

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to write a small backup utility based on psync with an
interface something like Carbon Clone Copier (i.e. user can select HD to
backup using a nice GUI). The problem is I can't figure out how to find
the HD name anywhere on the computer! Where do I look? Also, has anyone
else started working on a psync GUI already?
