NSDrawer Problem

I have a drawer set up in IB, and when I test it in IB, a popup menu item opens it.

But when I run my program, it will not open programicaly with the [drawer open] message, and the menu item set up in IB will not open it unless it is toggling it, but it takes two toggles before it inital opens. After that the open action hooked up in IB starts working, and the toggle works also.

I really need the ability to initially open it programicaly, any ideas?
