Is this a Bug With TabView control

I have a application that hids when its inactive and is activated when an
apple menu is clicked. Appers to work till I alow the user to select a tab
in a tabview control in the aplication. If the Application is unhide by
apple menu and menu item set's tab with selectTabViewItemAtIndex. The next
tab selected by user will send a applicationWillResignActive message to the
Application controler. This of corse hides my application. So whay am I
getting this message or is this a case of broken Tabview control
