Even some newer models do not have serial numbers. Mine does, my
friends doesn't. It seems the Mac OS and it's hardware were
specifically designed so there would never be a way to uniquely
identify them.

(As you can see, Apple will not support you if you try to uniquely
identify a computer)

Nevertheless I am ready to switch to other methods and the Mac
address as somebody mentioned in the thread (I guess he was meaning
the ethernet address as method to identification), also seems to me
a fairly good method as all machines have one (at least all those
supporting OS X).
