Is this problem with mmap (I'm guessing that's what
dataWithContentsOfMappedFile is using under the hood) just on HFS+
filesystems?

I have no local UFS partition on my laptop, so I can conform only that this happens on HFS+ and NFS mounted external disk. Hopefully Apple will comment on this...
