Reading legacy data files

I'm porting an application from Windows =:O and I need to read in a structured ASCII file that the program parses with C code. Pretty simple stuff with groups of numbers and text strings. What's a good way to read in such a file, that should always be located in the directory where the application lives. I looked at NSFileWrapper - looks pretty complex . . .
