HOT: New Developer lists for Fortran & Porting

Dear Mac OS X Developers,

We are excited by all the people coming to Mac OS X from UNIX-based operating systems. Many of them look forward to run all their in-house and Open Source code on the same desktop they use for productivity and Internet connectivity (plus the occasional game). To help these people in their transition to Mac OS X, the good folks at lists.apple.com have created new mailing lists focused around two specific communities:
- Fortran users,
- developers porting general UNIX-based software (usually C or C++) to Mac OS X.

The Fortran Development list is for community discussions about how to use the Fortran programming language on Mac OS X. This covers Open Source and commercial tools and libraries, as well as other issues encountered by Fortran programmers who want to use Mac OS X as their development platform.

If you're trying to port software to Mac OS X from UNIX, Linux, or BSD, then this is the list for you. This list is for community discussions regarding all the questions people face when doing a port: What's different about Darwin? Which high-level toolkits should I use for my GUI? Is there a workaround for this problem? Has someone tried to port this before?

If your question or challenge fits into either of these categories, we encourage you to use one of the new lists, rather than the more general development lists. Note that these lists are primarily for community interaction, though we expect Apple employees may also participate from time to time.

Best wishes, and Happy Hacking.

Sincerely,
Ernest Prabhakar
