It was an environment for kids who wanted to make multimedia applications. It was possible to make games in it... It's still available on some sites, but I think it got purchased by another company who changed the name and improved it a little, and made a PC version.

As for the Mac OS X Cocoa frameworks, yeah, it's probably linked to Java.

Could someone please enlighten me as to why Cocoa is called Cocoa?

Apple had another technology by the same name once, maybe ten years ago.
Some kind of multimedia authoring thing I think. Never went anywhere.
