At the suggestion of a helpful reader of the list (thanks Jonathan!), I
tried logging in as a new user and repeating the experiment.
MallocDebug works fine under the new user, but I still have the same
problem with ObjectAlloc.
So apparently something in my user environment is breaking MallocDebug!
I've killed off all the login items that I run but that doesn't seem to
help...I'm stumped as to what else it could be, and I'm still stumped
over ObjectAlloc.

I have an app that seems to run perfectly normally when run standalone

illegally.
Trying to start the same app under ObjectAlloc has a similar effect: a
few bounces and then the app quits. This time this is followed by the
message:
task_start_peeking: can't suspend failed (ipc/send) invalid
destination port
repeating an awful lot of times in the console.log.
Anyone got any ideas on how I start chasing this problem?
Just to add some extra interest, I've had a couple of kernel panics
while running the app as well, but I'm not even going to start trying
to chase those yet!
