OS X already comes with Apache, so the last step is not normally required
:-)

The standard httpd.conf on OS X says docroot (ie http://localhost/) is
/Library/WebServer/Documents/.

User-specific document directories (ie http://localhost/~username/) are in
~username/Sites/.
