That's a good suggestion. It probably won't happen for the next release,
as we've got a lot of new API to cover, but we'll consider it for the
future.
IMO yeah, there's a lot to be desired about the current documentation.
Beyond the specific issue of delegate methods not showing up in the
PDF's bookmarks (which I'll agree is a problem, and which we'll look to
get fixed in the near future), please be specific about the "lot" to be
desired about the current documentation. To give some context, this is
the state of the documentation as I see it:
* The reference API is complete for 10.1. If there's a specific problem
in the reference API, please file a bug and we will fix it as soon as we
can.
* Conceptual and task coverage is spotty. Topics that are listed in the
What's New document as new and updated are generally considered to be
complete, and if you find a problem in there please let us know. We're
getting to other topics as we can.
* There may be specific navigation or organization issues about the
current layout. If we don't hear from you what problems you're
encountering, we can't fix them. Again, Radar is the best way to bring
specific issues to our attention.
I just love it when they say - look at the headers! :-)
So far as I know, that's not something we say about Cocoa documentation
at this time. If there are cases where you've heard this, please file a
bug in Radar so we can correct the problem.
If people don't complain, nothing gets improved.
Absolutely. But if people don't complain in an organized way (that is to
say, by fulling a bug with our bug tracking system), it probably won't
get improved either. While I try to scan this list for interesting bits
and pieces as I can, it would be a full time job to truly keep up with
it. If it's important to you, please file a bug. That's the best way to
get it onto our radar.
This stuff IS overwhelming for newbies... People tend to forget that.
It absolutely is, and the reference material is honestly not the best
place for newbies to start -- one of the several Cocoa books is a much
better place, as while going through the book you should be able to get
an understanding of how the documentation is organized. Ideally the book
should explain in detail how to access and interpret the reference
documentation; it's laid out in a logical fashion, but that doesn't mean
it's going to be completely intuitive to a newcomer. Especially a
newcomer who doesn't yet quite grok what is delegation.
