Hopefully in 10.2. I posted this request many times a while ago on this
list. No one knows the answer, because one doesn't exist. The best I can
do is to make a zero-length file, get an alias to it using Carbon calls,
give the zero-length file to the Pasteboard Manager, let the Finder move
it, resolve the alias, get the zero-length file's new location, and
delete the zero-length file. This works, but I haven't used it, because
it doesn't work across volumes. You could specify a "move" operation and
then do a file search for the zero-length file if the alias were broken,
except that Cocoa's drag&drop mechanism doesn't seem to care one bit
whether I specify the move, copy, or link operations. It copies every
time, regardless, unless you hold down the Command key.
Bottom line - drag and drop in Cocoa sucks right now. It will hopefully
be better in 10.2. I'm waiting until then...

Yes. I need to get the drop location and later create the file. This is
possible in Carbon using the promiseHFS flavor. I need to know when this
will be available in Cocoa.

Wait...
Are you talking about the ability to create a file at drop-time in the
Finder?
If so, ignore my previous email - I can't get that to work either :)

Any news regarding the Cocoa (NSPasteboard) implementation of the

I really need this feature to implement drag'n'drop to the
Finder/Desktop...
Thank you!
