NSOutlineView and tool tips

Is it possible to set a tooltip for a specific cell (row) in an NSOutlineView?

For what it's worth, this is for a preference pane so I can't do naughty things to NSWindow. I've tried NSToolTipManager's -setToolTip:forView:cell: (assuming it does what I think), but it just sets it for the entire view (or the entire column, I can't tell).
