I just knew, Ondra would reply to this one! LOL Ondra, you really HATE AppleScript, dont you? I understand that there was no AppleScript on NeXT and it might seem wrong to use AS for people who aren4t "native" to Macs. But: I would guess more than 95% of all Mac-users dont even know they can quit the finder.

So, depending on the kind of user one would expect for the app, I guess it can be considered safe to use AS and the Finder to move a file to the trash. I agree however that it makes sense to check for availability of the finder before doing so.

Simplest it may be, but, as simplest solutions often go, quite wrong. Check archives for a lenghty discussion of this; the gist is that there might be no Finder at all.
