Have you set up the server the file is coming from to return the proper MIME type? If not, it will default to text/plain.

To configure MIME types in Apple's built-in copy of Apache, edit /private/etc/httpd/mime.types - don't forget to restart Apache to make the changes take effect.

I don't own the server the file is coming off of, I'm just developing a front end to one of their products. For what's it's worth, I know for fact that the file has those particular MIME and creator type codes. It's just a matter of getting Internet Explorer to recognize my application as a viewer of those files.
