There are contract jobs out there. You have to charge
less and be concerned that you'll get paid (heard
some stories from friends on not getting paid),
and do several at once. There are a buzz of projects
coming down the pipe. Finding a fair amount of interest
from people who want commercial projects done, Carbon
or Cocoa, but need to give you royalties or stock options
instead of cash these days. If you structure the deals
right this may be better to do then spin off in your own
direction and hope for a hit. Frequently sound useful
products happen in teams. Look for companies that want
to take Linux code and move it to BSD and X. And as
always in the MacOS space be open to companies with
Windows products that want a X version (if it can be done
w/o a lot of thrash). Be open to small firms. The big
ones took a beating but small growing firms are taking
their place.
