If you are having trouble with the basics of C, may I suggest the Absolute
Beginner's Guide to C by Greg Perry. It is super-basic and does not assume
any previous programming experience. As the introduction says, "If you
can't even spell C, you can learn to program in C with this book." Not a
perfect book, but it sounds like you need what it offers.
