I was at your your starting point about a year ago. I got the
developer tools installed and then I heard things like with fifty lines
of code you write a text editor. That is true yet there is a big cocoa
learning curve that you must get over first. I was not able to do
anything for about three months.
I read a lot of the docs and tutorials but nothing made sense until
"Learning Cocoa" came out. I worked through all of the books errors,
entered every line of code and some where in the "To Do" project I
started to write Cocoa code by myself. Then I got the book "Cocoa
Programmming for ..." by Hillegass. A few more have come out now that
you can review. The books were written differently. Learning Cocoa
was a one time affair even thou it took a lot of time. The
Hillegrass book can be used as a reference when you are ready to learn a
new topic. Once you get that far you can read the API reference and
Programming Topics to get the hang of it. I am now reading the
Address Book API. You will not find it in any book for a while.
All you need now is some project that you want to do. I was out of
work and I wrote a resume editor. I went wild. It is now about 20,000
lines of code. I just did it for a lark and now it look like a
business.
If you have a few hundreds of dollars you can watch ADC TV.
Good luck.

Hi,
This is an absolutely newbie question. I have no development experience
on Mac OS. Yes I did c programming on UNIX long back and then moved on
to Macromedia Director.
I have recently got myself a new Mac and got the developer tools along
with it. I tried reading a lot of material online to help me learn
cocoa development like Mike Beam's tutorials on O'Reilly,
cocoadevcenter articles and not forgetting Apple docs.
Frankly I have not made much headway as the whole paradigm of Cocoa
development still doesn't sink in. I have figured the MVC model. It is
as good as it gets for me.
To cut the long story short can some one help me find resources that
could make it a little easier for a developer like me.
Would some one have a little guidance so that I could figure how I can
possibly contribute my bit to cocoa development with Objective-C.
Regards,
Deb
