"Learning Cocoa" (first edition) was a terrible book. It had been written by committee and it showed. O'Reilly published this simply to be first to market, and I hope they are ashamed to have taken money from people who trusted the O'Reilly name and forked over cash for it. It may be the worst book ever written, but I can't be sure because I haven't read Suzanne Somers' "Eat, Cheat, and Melt the Fat Away."

"Learning Cocoa" isn't even the worst Cocoa book ever written. That dubious honor currently belongs to Jesse Feiler's "Mac OS X Developer's Guide" (which I believe was the second book to market).

And I am disappointed by your attack on O'Reilly. For many people new to Cocoa, it was the only book available to get started, and in that regard, I applaud O'Reilly for putting it out when they did. You talked about the economics of Cocoa books, so you should recognize that O'Reilly was taking a financial risk with the book.

Personally, I found "Learning Cocoa" helpful as a gentle introduction to Cocoa, which after all, is what it was intended to be. Sure, there are better books available today (including yours), but they weren't around when OS X was first trying to attract developers.
