To which I got a few replies, but no real answer. However, in another
thread I seemed to have started by making a remark about Obj.-C EOF, I
came to understand a short section in the new Anguish, Buck, & Yacktman
book lamenting the lack of a "Controller Framework" for Cocoa. So I've
just read everything I can find on WebObjects and I don't much like
what I see.
Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I make of the
situation: the only way to cleanly do a dual controller design with
Objective-C is to pay Apple $700 and buy a no longer supported
WebObjects 4.5.1. Meanwhile Apple begs, pleads, and cajoles us to
write all new desktop apps in Cocoa. And Cocoa, due to the lack of
EOF, is a a f*cken cripple! Gutted. After reading how WebObjects
handles databases and _really_ separates the logic from the interface,
I can envision several more *Killer* desktop apps that I did not think
of before. No problem, just shell out the $700 for WO 5 and write the
things in Java. Yeah, right.
No wonder you guys and gals are clamoring for Apple to bring back
Objective-C EOF! Only reason I can see for not doing so is they think
there are stiff a few suckers who might pony up the seven hundred
smackers for the out-dated and no longer supported WO 4.5.1. To add
insult to my personal injury one of the top Gurus at Apple e-mailed me
off-list and poked fun at my contention in another thread that knowing
C first need not be a prerequisite for learning Cocoa--that the needed
C could be taught alongside Cocoa. I mailed back but have heard
nothing from him, nor did he ring in offering any help with my other
questions.
Little doubt I will stick with Cocoa, having come this far in time and
money, but first I will take a few days off looking at other ways to
implement my Killer App. Linux is looking pretty good about now,
especially since my app does not need a cute interface. And I wouldn't
have to loose sleep wondering when the mother ship was going to come
out with an iCopycat of my blood, sweat and tears.
