That's the triple stupid productivity-killing windoze or OS9 way.

The default button should *always* be the *the most probable user's response*. Like, if you wanted to delete something, you obviously wanted to delete it -- the dialog is just another chance to reconsider the decision --, so the default should be Delete (*not* Cancel).
