Hi,
Right out of the head, it seems that I saw something about IrDa in the
headers of ioKit.framework while having a lot of fun with it few months ago.
Look into the ioKit.framework. There are some docs inside, too.
It is not as developer friendly as, say, Foundations or AppKit.
Every device in Mac OS X is accessed through the ioKit. So if a device has
NO high level support, but is available, driven and valid, we can control
it, reconfigure it as we wish, communicate to it or obtain some data from
it. In theory.
Some higher level docs should be somewhere near the "Kernel API Reference"
at the Apple site. The first one to read is named something like "Accessing
Devices (...).pdf", who names the other useful guides.
To access a device we usually don't have to dig into the kernel proper. But
if no matching driver is capable to handle a device... I won't tell the
terrible stories here.
I think that searching for answer to this question at the archives of the
"email@hidden" might bring some more light.
Best wishes,
Oleg
