Once again, I'm talking about *learned* behaviour, not about rational thoughts.

OK, so if a user frequently performs an action which prompts them if they are really sure, they will learn that yes they are really sure so they'll dismiss the dialog without reading it. However, I don't know of any user that will dismiss a dialog without reading it if they are not expecting it. To do so is purely idiotic (you can do your best to help your users out along the way, but annoying 99% to prevent 1% from being stupid is probably not the way to go), and must be a result of using badly written programs which throw up dialogs all the time.
