There is a tutorial on this in a recent issue of MacTech magazine - don't remember the exact issue. CMMs under OS X are COM objects (yes as in MS COM - but that's another interesting discussion for another time).

The tutorial has downloadable sample code for a function that copies a file path.

Hi

Does anyone know where one would start reading to learn about making a
finder contextual menu item?

(for example - a contextual menu item that lets you copy file location to
the clipboard)
