I would rather have a Services model which is driven by parameters.
Cocoa has some of this, OpenStep had various versions of it. An app can
register as a service for providing certain pasteboard types by
assigning fields in its info plist. When the app is placed in a
Application path then the Finder registers the service. That way there
is no programming hooks involved.
