Which reminds me - I'd love to see a repository for Cocoa GUI widgits

Does one

In the good old days (...:) there was the MiscKit. Anyone knows if
there will be a new version for Mac OS X one day?
Yes there will!
Working on the book really derailed things. Unfortunately, the last
time I made a public announcement of what I wanted to do with the OS X
MiscKit, I knew the book would cause this problem, but the book also
wasn't announced so I couldn't say anything about it. Worse, I'd
already committed to give a presentation of some sort...I really am not
entirely happy about how the whole thing panned out in regards to the
kit, frankly. Still, I think the book was well worth doing, even if the
kit suffered as a result.
Keep in mind that I've probably spent on the order of 1,000 hours on the
book, and a lot of that is time I WOULD have otherwise spent on
MiscKit. I'm still playing a bit of catch-up at work, but the MiscKit
will be reborn for Mac OS X as soon as I can do it...which won't be
right away, but hopefully not much longer. I have quietly spent a
little time lining up a few folks to help me get it started again.
However, to manage expectations a bit, the OS X kit is, as I see it, a
"start over". We can bring things forward from the old kits when it
makes sense, but a lot of the old stuff should just be tossed IMHO. So
when we open up the OS X kit, we'll be in large part opening up an
infrastructure, without a whole lot in the first revision of the kit.
That will change quickly as submissions come in and we port old stuff,
but don't expect the first release to be as rich as, say, MiscKit 1.11.
It will take some time to get there.
(There is a new version of the MiscMerge engine that should be release
soon along with a new Autodoc that uses it; that alone is a pretty nifty
and useful bit of objectware...)
Anyone who wants to help me work on getting this restarted (including
those who want to submit new code) can feel free to get in touch with me
at any time, I am at least keeping track of who is interested so that
when everything's ready for me to fling the doors wide open, I can let
them all know.
