inserting into a textfield?

Hello,
do somebody knows if it's possible to insert a text into a textfield
at the insertion point: it's possible to set the text, to modify it
but it seems that it's not possible to insert a the insertion point,
the inherited "inserttext" of the nsresponder class doesn't work...
and it's seems not to be possible to retrieve the selection range????
(I wouldn't like to put a textview)
