John Geleynse asked me to forward this to the list.
Brock,
The contest page is quite clear about submission dates. Check out the
italicized text at the end of the second paragraph on
<http://designawards.apple.com> which introduces the Apple Design
Awards for
Application Software contest. It clearly communicates the deadline for
submissions.
Additionally, the second paragraph of the "Register Now" portion of
the page
says "Once registered you must submit your entry via mail or courier
only.
Electronic entries are not available. Detailed submission instructions
are
provided during registration." This clearly draws a distinction between
registration and submission, and communicates the need for you to send
in a
physical entry.
Finally, the Frequently Asked Questions page *and* the Official Contest
Rules frequently refer to the fact that submissions, *not*
registrations,
must be received by Apple by the submission deadline. Judging by the
piles
of boxes and envelopes in my office right now, it appears that many
developers understood this.
With respect to your comments about the selection of April 15th as the
contest deadline...it must be because I'm Canadian and didn't realize
it was
tax day for the United States. :) (You didn't leave your taxes to the
last
minute too did you?)
Once a contest is publicly launched we cannot legally alter the dates.
Doing
so could potentially provide some entrants with an unfair advantage
over
others. We cannot guarantee that everyone who heard about the contest
initially would necessarily hear/know about/be aware of submission
deadline
changes.
I know electronic submissions would have been very convenient and cool
and
regret that we couldn't offer them this year. There are legal reasons
behind
this decision too, that I don't want to get into. Life goes on. Next
year
better maybe.
Again, I'm sorry you couldn't enter the contest. Look at the bright
side...you've got a whole year to perfect your submission now :)
