programmatically toggling "white on black" to "black on white"?

Hi all,

I couldn't find a better place to post this, so here goes:

I'm looking for a way to programmatically toggle the Universal Access setting "Switch to White on Black", and also being able to change the display mode from grayscale to color if it is set thus. I and my users have found the color version of "white on black" extremely useful when using a mac in a low light environment (I write telescope control software).

A certain version of OSX soon to be released allows switching to White on Black but currently locks the display into grayscale. I'm looking for a workaround.

Thanks for any and all.

Dave
