Because when I first got Mac OS X (v.10.0.0), I had problems with the
admin account not being able to do such a simple thing as move a
folder. So I logged on as root, which became a habit. Stupid of me, I
know. Should probably switch down. Anyway, let's just claim for the
record that I want my application to work with all users including root.

That does indeed seem to be the case, which kind of invalidates the
whole approach to the problem. I'll see if I can access the running
processes instead. Thanks for the advice.
