Hi ,
Thanks for the opinions, they are appreciated, but they don't answer
my question. I'm not doing an application. If I was doing a local
framework or device driver I don't want the using dragging anything
around into system directories. I would like to have the ability to
install into any directory that I deem necessary, especially if it's a
multi-part install. I was hoping that someone on the list has done an
install into a users home directory using packagemaker and could share
a little insight into that.
Again, I appreciate any feedback, especially on something off-topic
like this. Even if you could recommend the appropriate list to post
this question.

IMHO, installers should be avoided if at all possible. If your product
is a single entity, that gets installed in a single place, just put it
on a disk image, and let the user drag it to it's final destination
I agree.
If you are concerned about the user not being able to find the right
destination, maybe you could have a symbolic link on the disk image
that
points to the destination folder. Then just tell them to double-click
on the
icon for that sym link and drag the pref-pane there.
