privileges question

Hi,

I am thinking to implement a feature in my app so the user can edit files that are owned by root. What would be a good way to approach this? Always allow the user to open and edit any file, but those owned by root can only be saved after a user with admin privileges type his/her name and password? Or ask for the password when the user tries to open such a file?

Is there a built in API in Cocoa that puts up a dialog for entering and validating names and passwords? Possible in combination with the 'lock' icon.

Second part of the problem is how to make files that are invisible in the Finder show up in the Open/Save dialog. Any suggestions how to approach that?

thanks,

- Koen.
