When I start my application under the Xcode debugger, makeWindowControllers is called. No surprise there, but the main window never appears. Thereafter, whenever I click on the application icon, makeWindowControllers is called again, but again with no window subsequently appearing.
I determined that -[NSDocumentController openUntitledDocumentOfType:display:], which directly calls makeWindowControllers, gets the correct parameters and apparently does return a valid NSDocument.
Any insight on how I might go about debugging this problem?

Two common scenarios:

Most likely: You've disconnected the 'window' outlet from File's Owner in your document nib;
Less likely: You've either not over-ridden -windowNibName, or it returns the wrong string.
