Why not try the books before you buy? Sign up for a trial Safari
account from http://safari.oreilly.com/ and read the books online.
Safari (the website not the browser) is an excellent resource and there
are quite a few Cocoa books there. I think you get a month free before
you need to start paying for your safari account.

I actually think there is enough documentation on the Apple website
(and elsewhere) to teach yourself Cocoa programming without having to
buy any books. So if you want to learn on a budget I think it's doable.
