Cameron, not sure what you mean...but

If you develop e.g. GameApp that
embed client of mySQL,
and require mySQL server of course.

And you start distribute this GameApp to your customers
And on your CD / archive is located mySQL server itself

You MUST pay them embedded license ($180-$450) per copy of server.

IF you do not distribute server included with your solution you do not need
pay them. But now your users must SELF download, install, and set up Server.
Can you expect this from dummy users?

This is where Embedded Valentina server offer significant alternative for
Application Developers.

In theory yes.

Cameron, there is NO sense, write own client to access Server.
You will spend weeks and months on this.
