Does anyone know what the human interface guidelines are for rounded text fields? It seems in most of Apple's iApps they are only rounded when it is a search field. However, I couldn't find any official stance by Apple about when to use them and when not to. Personally, I like them and use them in text fields that aren't for searching, but maybe I should change that?

An unofficial rule for guidelines on OS X is:

"Look what Apple is doing in its software and then do the opposite."

In 10% of cases (sometimes I'm wondering if it's not the result of a NeXT vs Apple HIG little fight), you will then be following the Aqua Human Interface Guildelines.

As for rounded text fields, it looks like everyone is using them for search field indeed. So it looks like using them for casual text fields is not a good idea.
