Finding an application ?
Finding an application ?

This is a shot in the dark, but I've looked everywhere and not found a
simple solution.
I have the creator code (signature) for an application. I want to get the
unix path to it's location in the system. It could be located anywhere, not
just the Applications folder. How do I do this in X ?
In Carbon I used to use the DTxxx routines to grovel through the Desktop
database. I'd hate to have to resort to that in OS X and I'm not even sure
that the OS 9 Desktop DB files track OS X applications and file extensions.
In OS X I know the file extension and app signature can both be used to
launch an application no matter where it's located. If I double-click on
file foo.bar and application xyz handles .bar file types, then xyz will
launch. So, this information must be kept somewhere and, hopefully, there is
an API to access it.
Anyone have any idea how I can map an application signature to the
applications location on disk ?
Thanks -
Alec
