Although we do allow creating an NSWindow for a WindowRef, or vice
versa, this does not really support the granularity of putting an
NSView in a Carbon window. Even if you do create an NSWindow for a
WindowRef, event routing and drawing are still done by the WindowRef.
If you need this capability, you should file a feature request at
bugreporter.apple.com.
Integrating Carbon and Cocoa is a work in progress... More on this as
it develops.

Isn't there some danger that the Cocoa environment is compromised as a
result? As a Cocoa newbie (but OO and systems veteran), I'm quite
impressed with the cleanliness of the environment, and I've already
read some rumblings on this list about Carbon-related changes under the
wraps causing problems.
(I don't mean that arrogantly, but simply: whenever integration
happens, compromise in one area or another is often required.)
