I'm curious if any actual users complain or are confused about the use of metal? I personally have never been confused by the use of metal, and in certain cases prefer it to all aqua windows, specifically in iTunes though not really in Safari. I get the impression that the real purpose of metal is that it looks cool. I'm sure there wasn't any logic to it being introduced into Quicktime in the first place besides that. The problem is it only looks good in moderation. Ask yourself if Mail.app would look better in metal: the answer is no. But would iTunes look better in aqua? Probably not. It's unfortunate that there is an inconsistency, but it's one of those things where you lose either way. I sure wouldn't want all metal windows, but I like it in certain apps. I think Apple should restate the guideline in a less arbitrary way, say all single windowed apps are metal or all non-document based apps are metal. _______________________________________________
