I've seen a lot of apps which don't use Quartz in an intelligent manner. For example updating an entire window when only one component needs updating, and also deleting and redrawing an item instead of moving it in a separate layer (to take advantage of QE).

Has anybody seen a web page which details various Quartz optimization techniques (programmatically)?

If you can put a hand on the WWDC 2001 DVDs, there's a session presented by Ali Ozer on this topic that is really interesting. It was before Quartz Extreme, though.

The material in that presentation still applies.
