Image Capture and TWAIN
Image Capture and TWAIN

The Image Capture application has a checkbox control in its Preferences
dialog called "Use TWAIN software whenever possible".
I don't see any documentation about what this actually does - or how to
use the SDK to enable/disable this option in my own code.
My guess is that Image Capture usually communicates with the TWAIN
drivers with their own UI disabled, but it is possible to allow the
TWAIN drivers to use their own dialogs and controls. I only have a
single test scanner (Epson Perfection 1260u) and it seems to not be
asynchronous but has some built in intelligence for things like auto
cropping, descreening, unsharp mask, etc - which is not accessible via
the Image Capture framework. So I am not clear on when to "use TWAIN
software".
I have studied the Image Capture SDK and the MacOS X Twain SDK at
www.twain.org - is there anything else available to help me understand
scanning on MacOS X?
Thanks,
Joel
