MacOS Advanced Commercial Labeling Software

Have to research for a company how they can do their labels
for 100s of products where all the data on the label is editable.
They do a lot of these things a day. The content is regulated.

Toured their facility and now they buy already pre-printed
rolls of labels and have a Windows 98 machine devoted to
several high-end b/w label printers. The color coding on the
labels is pretty sophisticated (but pre-printed).

They want me to write some code to get the text for the label from
a database they already have -- because now they have someone
type in each one and mistakes happen.

But they'd like to buy a color capable industrial label printer (and a
backup) that can print the graphics and do the text thing that I'll
do. Now is the time to say buy some Macs for this task. Then
I can use AppleScript to parse their data file and get the data in
the label software (unless the software already has this thought out).
Else I'll have to use XP which seems to have a couple of solutions
in this direction. If this rings a bell for anyone on how I can use a
MacOS company to get this done, please let me know.

And yes the labels vary in size. Feel free to pass this on to any sales
reps in this area that you may know. Are there any projects like this
for X under development?

Thanks,
