Nothing has changed on that front since your NEXTSTEP tour of duty:
developers are still asking for a text format for nib files. Not that
it makes it easy to merge conflicts (see ProjectBuilder), but at least
possible.
For now, you have to avoid conflicts, either by conventions or through
locking.
