Yes, there is a problem with the Property List Editor. I have seen this
myself many times and have been confused by it in the past. I don't know of
any work around though.

My application, Defaults Manager, can be used to view and edit all of your
property lists in ~/Library/Preferences and it does not have this bug.
Although you can't open a single property list with Defaults Manager (yet),
you can use it to view and edit any application's preferences in your
Preferences folder.
