You can use NSWorkspace's -openFile: method to open it and its -getInfoForFile:application:type: method to find out what its designated app is.

Hi all,
in my app, I want to be able to open any document with its designated
application, like the Finder does.

Is somewhere registered, which extension belongs to which application?

Can I access this information?
